How to communicate in different languages
A profession of the future that now is still not regulated in Italy

The cultural mediator is a brand new profession, born as consequence of the globalization. Many foreigners arrive in Italy without knowing anything about our country and often they are not able to be understood not only in language but also in behavior and facts. The cultural mediator is a bridge that links different cultures.
In Italy, cultural mediators are often foreign immigrants, most of them with an university degree, that live in our country from many years, know the italian language and culture and have studied in this field. Often cultural mediators work in statal offices how the municipal administrations, schools, hospitals, police headquarters, jails, trinunals and even in the unions. Today this work is precarious. Cultural mediators work with unsafe contracts and the pay is not fair and adequate with their skills and commitment. For this reason, many excellent mediators quit and move from public to private. The business of italians firms in the export needs openmind professionists, that know languages and have familiarity with commercial affairs.
This profession is in a steady changing, and there is no specific rules, despite the requests done in the Parliament. It would be useful have a national regulation to define requirements of the mediator and the necessary studies to cover this role. It looks like that our politicians have more importants things to do than regulate a new profession and necessary for an open world.
